Chief Terry Paul, Atlantic Business Magazine's 2022 CEO of the Year

Dear ABMInsider,

As you probably know by now, Chief Terry Paul of Membertou First Nation was crowned CEO of the Year at our Top 50 CEO awards gala last Thursday.

It was a truly a magical moment of historic firsts: not only was this Chief Paul’s first Top 50 win, but he was also the first Indigenous person to receive a Top 50 CEO award in the 24-year history of the program… AND, he was the first Indigenous person to place first among his corporate peers across the region. Not just our first CEO of the Year, but the first Indigenous person to win a similar Atlantic-wide accolade for any corporate leadership or entrepreneurial awards program.

Which makes Chief Paul the ideal cover story for our Diversity & Inclusion issue, being published in July.

Other D&I stories you can look forward to this issue include:
  • our inaugural Employers of Diversity awards
  • the Promise Scholars initiative that’s boosting Black and Indigenous participation in university-level business programs
  • an overview of urban/rural diversity and why we need both for a thriving economy
  • Newfoundland’s warm welcome for Ukrainian refugees

The final story we’re publishing this issue is up to you.

We’re looking for Voices of Diversity… people from traditionally under-represented populations (including, but not limited to, people of colour, Black, Indigenous, immigrant, persons with disabilities, and 2SLGTBQIA+) to share a personal story of inclusion. Our intention isn’t to minimize your challenges, but to acknowledge them and celebrate the empowerment that comes from inclusive workplace policies, processes and cultures. We want to show inclusion done right, and how it builds communities.

If you have a story you’d like to share, I’d love to hear from you!
